Job Summary
Works under the direct supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director. The Parks and Recreation Assistant Director assists with the daily operations of the City of Alva's Parks and Recreation Department, including the Alva Recreation Complex, Cory Washburn Family Memorial Swimming Pool, Hatfield Park, and Bud Rose Park. The position assists with the planning, organization, development, scheduling, and coordination of recreation programs, activities, facilities, and special events while providing friendly and professional customer service to patrons and the general public.
The Parks and Recreation Assistant Director assists with staff supervision, facility scheduling and coordination, equipment setup and maintenance, program registration, and other administrative and operational duties. The position helps ensure parks and recreation facilities are clean, safe, orderly, and properly maintained and may assist with opening and closing facilities, monitoring activities, enforcing facility rules, and conducting safety checks. The Assistant Director may perform assigned duties and responsibilities of the Parks and Recreation Director in the Director's absence and may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules based on department needs.

Assists with staff supervision, facility coordination, equipment setup and maintenance, and other department operations. Helps ensure parks and facilities are clean, safe, and properly maintained. May perform assigned duties of the Parks and Recreation Director in the Director's absence and may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules as needed.
Essential Functions
•Responsible for all assigned job duties and responsibilities when the Parks and Recreation Director is absent.
•Promote positive public relations at all times for the Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Alva.
•Undertake a variety of administrative and program management tasks, including assisting with the planning, organizing, developing, scheduling, and evaluating of programs and activities, as well as carrying out important operational duties.
•Facilitate the effective management of programs in accordance with Parks and Recreation Department and City of Alva standards.
•Schedule recreation facilities and supervise the condition of facilities.
•Coordinate with various community agencies and other City departments to provide opportunities through youth programs and community involvement programs.
•Establish team rosters, schedule leagues and tournaments, and enforce the rules and regulations of recreation and athletic programs.
•Provide clerical support, assist with program registration, answer telephones, maintain correspondence with other divisions or agencies, and respond to public inquiries regarding Parks and Recreation facilities and programs.
•Assist in the development of classes, schedules, activities, and programs, and coordinate recreation programs for facility use.
•Coordinate with staff on weeknights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
•Open and close recreation facilities and assist with the daily operations of the facilities.
•Perform custodial and maintenance duties as needed. Set up tables, sports equipment, chairs, bleachers, and other equipment for classes, programs, events, and activities.
•Provide security for buildings and grounds as needed. Conduct safety checks of facilities and grounds and identify and address hazards to help ensure the safety of patrons, employees, and visitors.
•Perform mowing, weed eating, and other grounds maintenance duties in City parks and recreational areas as needed.

Educational/Experience Requirements
•Must be 18 years of age or older. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Prior experience in Recreation, parks, management, or related is preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
CPO certification required, valid Oklahoma Driver’s License

Physical/Mental Requirements
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Ability to perform heavy manual labor tasks in extreme weather conditions for long periods of time. Excellent attendance record required.

Environmental Conditions and Safety Concerns
The Parks and Recreation Assistant Director will work in a variety of settings, which may include work indoors and outdoors. The Assistant Director must maintain a flexible schedule in relation to planned activities; this may include working nights and weekends.
