Salary: Pay will range between $48,404-$58,890 per year ($23.28-$28.32 per hour).

Job Summary:
The Municipal Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing the City’s fleet of vehicles and equipment, including light- and heavy-duty trucks, police and emergency vehicles, heavy machinery, and small engine equipment. This position ensures the operational readiness and safety of all municipal vehicles and equipment, supporting the essential services provided by departments such as Public Works, Police, Fire, Building and Code, Animal Control, Street, Sewer, and Parks. Typical working hours are Monday-Thursday, 7 AM- 5 PM and Friday 8 AM- 12 PM. This position is safety sensitive.
Essential Duties
The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
-Perform routine inspection, preventative maintenance, and repairs on gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
-Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system failures using specialized diagnostic tools and equipment.
-Maintain detailed service records for each unit in the fleet and ensure compliance with safety and emission standards.
-Respond to emergency repairs both in the shop and in the field as needed.
-Order and maintain inventory of tools, parts, and supplies.
-Coordinate with department heads to schedule maintenance in a way that minimizes operational disruptions.
-Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
-Assist in developing and updating maintenance schedules and vehicle replacement plans.
-Ensure all work is performed in compliance with municipal safety standards
Supervisory and Managerial Responsibility
None.
Qualifications
-High School Diploma or GED.
-Technical certification or vocational training in automotive or diesel technology (Preferred)
-Minimum of 3 years of experience in automotive and/or diesel equipment repair.
-Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required)
-Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and repair software.
-Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
-Ability to lift heavy parts, stand for long periods, and work in various weather conditions.
-Excellent time management and communication skills.
-Physical Demands and Work Environment
-Primary work location will be in a shop-type building with loud noises, unpleasant smells, and temperature fluctuations.
-Must be able to lift 50lbs
-Must be able to stand, bend, and kneel for long periods.
