Listing Description
The Firefighter is an entry-level position under the direct supervision of the Fire Chief. Firefighters serve as integral members of the department, participating in emergency response, fire suppression, rescue, and public safety operations. This role also includes ongoing training, equipment maintenance, and public outreach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents, and other emergency calls.

· Perform duties including rescue, first aid, firefighting, ventilation, forcible entry, salvage and overhaul.

· Participate in fire prevention activities, inspections, and public fire education.

· Operate and maintain firefighting tools, equipment, and apparatus.

· Conduct daily station duties, housekeeping, and grounds maintenance.

· Engage in training sessions and continuing education.

· Maintain clear and accurate reports and records.

· Other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Must be between 18 and 44 years of age.

· High school diploma or GED required.

· No felony convictions.

· Valid Oklahoma driver’s license.

· National Registry EMT certification preferred.

· Ability to pass:

o Physical ability test

o Medical evaluation

o Psychological screening

o Background investigation

o Personal interview

Physical Requirements:

· Climb six or more flights of stairs in full gear.

· Lift and carry 200+ lb. individuals or heavy equipment.

· Crawl, bend, twist, reach, and maintain balance in hazardous conditions.

· Operate firefighting equipment and drive emergency vehicles.

· Adequate visual and auditory acuity to safely perform duties.

Skills and Competencies:

· Strong communication and teamwork skills.

· Ability to remain calm in high-stress and emergency situations.

· Professional demeanor and appearance.

· Willingness to work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

· Ability to follow orders, work independently, and make decisions under pressure.

Working Conditions:

· Exposure to extreme heat, cold, and hazardous environments.

· Long periods of intense physical exertion.

· Confined space entry, high-angle operations, and noisy environments.

· Use of PPE and SCBA in physically demanding situations.

· Exposure to traumatic sights, sounds, and smells.

Drug & Alcohol Testing Policy:

This is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random screenings, as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation and Oklahoma State regulations. Marijuana is included in the screening. A medical marijuana card does not exempt candidates from the testing requirements or consequences of a positive result.
