The Annual Mayors Council of Oklahoma Summer Conference Held in Lawton was Big Success

Over one hundred Oklahoma mayors, guests, sponsors, OML staff and partners attended the annual Mayors Council of Oklahoma (MCO) summer conference. The conference was held in the city of Lawton. Joining the City of Lawton as event organizers were the Lawton-Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce and the Lawton-Fort Sill Convention & Visitors Bureau. The 3-day event was held at the Apache Casino Hotel.

Governor’s recent Executive Order extends Cities/Towns ability to hold meetings via teleconferencing or videoconferencing

On Friday, July 10, Governor Stitt Amended Executive Order 2020-20. This action extends the Executive Order an additional thirty days, and in doing so extends Senate Bill 661, which provides that public bodies can hold meetings via teleconferencing or videoconferencing. SB 661 was passed by the House and Senate and signed by the Governor during the past legislative session.

Oklahoma mayors push public safety bill

There are about 590 incorporated towns and cities scattered across Oklahoma. Some 520 of them are home to fewer than 7,000 people.

Needless to say, small-town issues are often at the forefront of discussions when the Oklahoma Congress of Mayors convenes. About 70 mayors took part in just such a gathering held recently at the state Capitol.
