The City of Midwest City is accepting applications for the position of Utilities Service Clerk in the City Clerk Department.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you may be cross-trained in the following areas: switchboard, utility billing, cashier, customer service, dispute resolution, rental registration and maintenance of licenses and permits.
Primary responsibilities include:
•Receives all incoming calls to the City and directs them to the proper office, opens and closes switchboard and monitors telephone equipment.
•Opens mail for payment of water bills and checks amount paid against the bill.
•Provides information and service to the public for city services and/or city utility policies.
•Prepares work orders for new accounts, transfers, final bills, address changes, name changes, re-reads and stop service.
•Checks accounts for payment and delayed payment agreements prior to cut-offs.
•Resolves complaints over billing and verifies meter readings with data processing, meter readers and the utilities department.
•Provides information regarding various city licenses and permit requirements and issues according to ordinances.
•Maintains files of permits and licenses and notifies appropriate parties prior to their expiration.
•Monitors sanitation accounts and notifies customers by letter of delinquent payments.
•Issues credit and debit adjustments to customers accounts with approval.
•Receives receipts from the public in payment of water, sewer and sanitation service charges, license fees, construction permits and special fees.
•Provide public records as requested.
•Checks every water account and water consumption of same on monthly basis for validity in the reading of the meter before each account is billed.
•Processes final statement of accounts.
•Reviews all billing records for accuracy.
•Works with the rental property registration program to register properties within the city.
•Keeps records on construction within the city from Community Development to change billing status as necessary.
•May stock supplies and copy paper for use in the department. Perform minor repair on office equipment.
•Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have:
✓ High school or GED
✓ Specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc., plus 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
✓ must be able to pass clerical and data entry test
✓ Must have computer knowledge
✓ Basic: 10-Key, Alphanumeric Data Entry, Other, Spreadsheet, Word Processing/Typing
Preferred Qualifications
•Skill with Excel and Word preferred.

•You must be able to work quickly and are subject to frequent interruptions
•You must be able to handle a high stress environment in dealing with utility issues for our customers.
