THE CITY OF OKLAHOMA CITY – OFFICE OF THE MUNICIPAL COUNSELOR IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITIONS:
Assistant Municipal Counselor – Litigation Division
Responsibilities of attorneys in the Litigation Division include representing and defending the City in all state and federal civil lawsuits related to negligence or civil rights violations caused by City employees. The Municipal Counselor’s Office provides legal service and guidance to the City, its officers, departments and trusts to ensure that all City operations are performed in a manner consistent with the requirements of federal and state laws and City ordinances. Familiarity and experience with the Governmental Tort Claims Act is preferred.
Assistant Municipal Counselor – Land Use Division
Responsibilities of attorneys in the Land Use Division include representing the City in legal matters related to land use and development services and providing legal advice on issues such as zoning and property litigation. Knowledge of municipal law preferred but not required.
Assistant Municipal Counselor – Criminal Justice Division
Responsibilities of attorneys in the Criminal Justice Division include acquiring knowledge of City ordinances and interpreting their effect on municipal operations; prosecuting violations of ordinances in the municipal criminal court; reviewing charges for filing decisions; reviewing files for plea recommendations; appearing before the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals; and performing legal research and writing briefs.
