The City of Midwest City is accepting applications for the position of Marketing & Business Retention Specialist in the Communications & Marketing Department.

What You’ll Do
In this role, you will enhance resident and employee understanding of City objectives, issues, decisions, and challenges through public information and marketing programs and campaigns; seeking to increase resident and stakeholder engagement in City events, services and operations; writing and creating content for various media channels to communicate City events and issues; developing and managing the City website; with direction and assistance from department director, developing city-wide media relations initiatives; overseeing the production of educational videos and other multimedia content. You will work with the Economic Development Director on business outreach and retention activities, visiting and interviewing businesses within the City limits and providing education on City resources and processes. 

Primary responsibilities include:
•Assists the department directors in strategically planning, monitoring and evaluating complex programs, projects and initiatives.
•Seeks opportunities to promote City services, events, and programs through writing content for various media outlets and publications and other methods.
•Produces social media promotion materials for special events and activities.
•Assists the Communications & Marketing Director in communicating all aspects of City services, programs and issues to various audiences including: elected officials, media representatives, city employees, business and community leaders, students, and the general public.
•Coordinates meetings related to the development of information strategies on City-wide programs; edits City documents and publications for consistency with overall City message; and develops and recommends communications plans and strategies.
•Writes content for trade publications and other media outlets to communicate City events and issues; scripts speeches, presentations, and messages as needed.
•Assists the Communications & Marketing Director in coordinating media coverage of City groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, and other special events.
•Builds or enhances relationships within various sectors of the community (i.e. businesses, chambers of commerce, universities, non-profits, faith-based organizations, service organizations, etc.) and seeks opportunities to disseminate information about City programs, services, and issues.
•Assists in writing and editing content on the City's website; assists department liaisons in making updates to their website content; monitors posts made to the City website and/or Social Media outlets such as Facebook, X, YouTube, Instagram, and Next Door; assists in establishing policies and standards related to same.
•Creates or assists with creation of utility bill inserts, brochures, posters, flyers, advertisements and other informational materials; maintains City graphics and logos.
•Exercises exceptional oral, editing and written communications expressing complex ideas and instructions with tact and diplomacy. Detail orientation is a must to ensure all written materials are carefully crafted with no grammatical errors.
•Protects brand and image while managing development of programs, flyers, posters, ads, drop cards and sponsorship campaigns. Oversee design, creation and material assembly for presentations, illustrations, photography, publications, television production and exhibits among others.
•Performs business retention tasks and coordinates with the Economic Development Director on related activities. Fulfills Economic Development Director responsibilities in their absence.
•Listens to feedback, concerns, and comments from residents, visitors, businesses, and the general public, and responds as appropriate. 
•Maintains confidentiality of information, as required. 
•Operates city vehicle on a regular basis. Regularly visits businesses and organizations and attends events around the city. 
•Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have:
✓ High school graduate or equivalent
✓ Employee must possess a valid Oklahoma driver license and be insurable
✓Proficiency with software and online tools such as Canva, Adobe Tools, Microsoft Suite, and Constant Contact.
✓Broad knowledge of such fields as graphic design, marketing, journalism, photography, etc.

Preferred Qualifications
•Associate's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, event management, business administration, hospitality administration, or related field is preferred
•One year of direct related and progressively responsible work experience in the social media management, marketing, journalism, tourism, or hospitality industries may substitute for the degree preference
