Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Police, enforces Federal and State laws and City ordinances referring to animal control operations for the City of Guthrie.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
A.Patrols assigned areas of the City to enforce Federal and State Laws and City ordinances in reference to domestic and wild animal control.
B.Humanely apprehends animals running at large and vicious animals endangering citizens.
C.Completes a variety of written documents on animal bites, kennel activity reports and storage capacities, daily activity reports, issues written warnings and citations for violations of laws and ordinance.
D.Maintains, places, and retrieves traps and other equipment used to capture animals running at large.
E.Operates and maintains the City’s kennel operation to include: maintenance, cleaning, feeding and watering of impounded animals, ensuring the humane housing and treatment for all animals housed at the animal shelter.
F.Releases impounded animals to proper owner or adoptive owners.
G.Performs euthanasia of unclaimed or vicious animals and disposes of destroyed animals following City ordinances.
H.Maintains accurate records and collects fees for impounding animals and issuing licenses on domestic animals within the City, turns these fees over to the City Clerk on a schedule determined by the City Clerk.
I.Speaks to citizens and before citizen’s groups in reference to Animal Control Operations and participates in various training sessions.
J.Operates a motor vehicle for extended periods of time in all environmental conditions and in congested traffic situations.
K.Performs other duties as assigned.
