Oklahoma City, OK. – Oklahoma City University (OCU), along with partners, the Oklahoma Municipal League, and The Oklahoma Academy, is launching an innovative new program designed to educate citizens interested in running for elected positions in municipal government.
According to Steve Agee, dean of OCU’s Meinders School of Business, the program, called the Leadership & Public Administration Municipalities Certificate Program, is a series of classes being offered this fall on the OCU campus, as well as at participating Career Techs across the state and through live-streaming directly to the participant's computer.
Agee said that this program is a non-partisan initiative to educate all citizens who are interested in seeking an elective office. “We need a program that will educate and prepare people for the roles and responsibilities of elected officials before they are elected. This program will allow them to avoid having to learn about the job at the same time they are making important decisions that impact municipal government.”
Mike Fina, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Municipal League, said that the League is very proud to be a part of this program. “We hope that people from across Oklahoma who are interested in running for a municipal office will take the time to participate. The curriculum that is scheduled will give them a comprehensive overview of important issues that our communities face before they take office,” Fina said.
