POSITION: Utility Worker 1
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
REPORTS TO: Public Works Superintendent
PAY RANGE: varies depending on skill level
Under direct supervision of the public works superintendent and his assistant, you will be expected to operate in an independent, safe and effective manner at various assignments in the water, sewer, street & parks fields for the City of Piedmont. Work assignments will be provided daily by the crew leader and you will be expected to be courteous with not only your coworkers, but also the general public and learn new skills as they are required to complete all tasks in a timely manner.
•Assist other PMA crew members in installing or removing water and sewer taps, repairing water lines, maintaining and repairing pumps and equipment.
•Investigating water service problems and making recommendations and/or repairs.
•Promote and maintain responsive community relations.
•Read water meters accurately as scheduled.
•Practice and promote a safe work place.
•Assist in animal control duties when called upon.
•Follow orders and completes assignments.
•Completes grounds keeping, building maintenance, and landscaping tasks.
•Accurately maintain records as required, including all mandatory DEQ water and wastewater system records in the absence of a crew leader.
•Advises the crew leader on problems related to daily job functions and/or water/ wastewater system deficiencies.
•Performs street maintenance duties as assigned including patching, grading, sign maintenance, brush removal and other related tasks.
•All other duties required.
•Graduation from high school (or GED) supplemented by technical school, college courses, and/or training in multiple disciplines of Public Works.
•Possession of a valid driver’s license.
•Experience in maintenance practices and procedures.
•Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
•Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of street maintenance, solid waste management, water distribution systems, and construction work.
•Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with public works maintenance and repair projects.
•Ability to express ideas effectively verbally and in writing.
•Possession of or ability to obtain the appropriate Oklahoma Water and Wastewater Licenses.
•Exposure to heat, cold, and other weather elements.
•Must be able to lift 25-50 lbs. routinely.
•Must have flexibility to work a departmental on-call schedule
•Duties require the use of hand tools and heavy equipment
