Position Description and Board Expectations:
The Noble County Family YMCA (YMCA) Board of Directors is actively seeking a visionary leader who will build upon strong executive leadership and continue a culture of excellence within the YMCA. The CEO will be uniquely positioned to champion the YMCA mission and develop partnerships to meet the needs of the YMCA and the community. Building upon and expanding partnerships is a key focus for the future work of the YMCA.
Qualified candidates must have a solid business acumen, sound judgment, and exceptional leadership skills. They must have a proven track record that demonstrates an ability to successfully implement and promote the YMCA’s services and activities to the community; raise funds through annual and capital campaigns; assess community needs and develop programs in partnership with others to meet those needs; develop and manage a staff; and work with a YMCA board that focuses on strategic issues.
Salary Range: $45,000 minimum, commensurate with experience. There are opportunities for an increased salary based on current level of expertise and immediate contribution ability. This position is also eligible, based on the performance of the YMCA and the individual, for an annual merit opportunity. Relocation expenses are negotiable based on applicant’s qualifications and experience.
Residency Expectation: Living in Perry, OK is required.
Benefits: YMCA participates in the Y Retirement Program at an 8% rate, with the YMCA contributing all 8%. Vacation plan, health insurance, and other benefits per personnel policy included.
The Noble County Family YMCA Association Facts:
History: Ed Malzahn, founder of Ditch Witch, had a vision over 30 years ago to provide his employees a place to exercise and improve/maintain their health and fitness. But he didn’t want to limit such a facility to the Ditch Witch employees – he generously desired to create the opportunity for the entire community. Through partnering with the YMCA organization and a community capital campaign, the Noble County YMCA was started.
Service Area: We serve the Noble County area with a population of approximately 12,000. Perry has just over 5,000 residents. Other communities in Noble County include Billings, Red Rock, Morrison, and Marland.
Facilities:The 33-year-old main facility is 20,000 square feet and features a full court gymnasium, 6 lane pool with slide, men’s and women’s locker rooms, whirlpool, steam & dry saunas, strength and cardio centers.
The annex facility is 5,000 square feet and features a cycling studio, fitness program studio, child watch, and licensed child care/day camp.
Membership: The YMCA has a membership of approximately 1,405 members/561units in the following categories: Adult – 16%, Corporate – 1%, Couple – 4%, Extended – 0.5%, Family 24.5%, Household – 6%, Single Parent – 11%, Young at Heart – 20%, Young at Heart x 2 – 13%, Youth – 4%.
Programs: The YMCA offers several health and wellness classes, swim lessons, youth sports programs, after school child care, and summer day camp.
Staff: In addition to the CEO, there are currently two Full-Time, and 25 Part-Time staff. The CEO supervises the 2 direct employees which include the Senior Program/Membership Director and the Aquatic/Child Care Coordinator.
Volunteers: The YMCA engages 36 volunteers and is currently led by a local board of 10 Board of Directors (Board size may be as many as 12).
Financial: The YMCA current budget is $488,000 and operates on a January – December calendar with no debt and an average deficit of $30,000 per year.
Annual Campaign: The Y raised $102,000 on a goal of $100,000 in 2019.
Capital Campaign History: In 2017, $300,000 was raised to replace the roof.
Community: Perry is a close knit community with rich history, small town charm, and a great school system. The location is ideal being 25 minutes from Stillwater, 60 minutes from Oklahoma City, 75 minutes from Tulsa, and 90 minutes from Wichita, KS.

Minimum Criteria for candidates:
Accredited 4-year college degree.
Excellent written, verbal and technology communication skills, as well as personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
Ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
Strategic planning and fundraising experience, including annual campaigns and capital projects.
Ability and knowledge to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered or considered.
Proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management.
Preferred Criteria for Candidates:
YMCA Organizational Leader Certification. If the candidate does not possess this, they must obtain it within 3 years from the date of hire.
Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
Fiscally sound business management approach.
Proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management of approximately $500,000 or more annually.
Improve Operating Performance: Work with the board to develop an annual tactical plan for achieving key YMCA goals and objectives that will support the YMCA facility. Remain fully informed of all operational issues and have the keen ability to quickly address any issues that might arise as well as forecast future needs. Opportunities exist to enhance membership and program offerings.
Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan: Have the ability to work effectively with volunteers, staff, the Alliance Partner and the Board of Directors, to create and develop a strategic roadmap that addresses opportunities and challenges related to the community’s support of facilities and programs, with defined organizational strategies. Lead staff in the development and implementation of goals through an annual operating plan. Lead volunteers in creating and aligning committees and their work plans to support the strategies and goals of the association.
Fiscal Management: Use a high level of financial analysis to forecast financial trends, growth and stability while consistently leading the organization to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs. Empower and guide staff leaders on the successful financial operation of their areas of responsibility. Monitor the budget closely to address competition that impacts membership, facility needs, and anticipate impact on revenue and expenses related to upkeep and maintenance of the aging facility.
Advocate the YMCA Vision Within the Community: Serve as ambassador for the mission, goals and values of the YMCA. Lead efforts with increasing membership and delivering high quality programs to the community. Actively interact and communicate with the communities in the region as a representative of the YMCA. Represent the YMCA’s mission to community leaders, donors, staff and volunteers. Assure existing strong partnerships are fostered, and new partnerships are created. Be seen and respected as a leader within the community, while proactively creating collaborations to enhance outreach and program initiatives. Quickly establish relationships with groups, key community organizations and leaders such as, our local school system, city, county, hospital, and other employers.
Develop and Manage the Staff Team: The YMCA seeks a “servant leader” who can inspire a positive attitude and build a cohesive team. The new CEO will create a plan to build unity, encourage teamwork, set operational goals tied to a strategic plan, hold staff accountable, and foster individual staff development. Lead by example; remain actively engaged in staff development and performance leading to superior results in programs, member satisfaction and community engagement. Create an ongoing evaluation program for each department head and work directly with each to implement goals and measurable objectives for them and their departments.
