NATURE OF WORK
Responsible supervisory and technical position providing knowledge in the maintenance and repair of waste water and water treatment collection systems. Work provides direct supervision of field personnel including, but not limited to, assigning and monitoring work, responding to public complaints, and department safety.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1.Assigns work crews for work connected with maintenance and repair of water treatment and waste water collection systems; provides field supervision.
2.Updates personnel time sheets, overtime, and stand by to ensure accuracy. Prepares work schedules, interviewing, hiring, train, supervises and appraising, discipline, rewarding personnel; supervise and coordinate adequate cross training of employees on assigns duties.
3.Develops regular and preventive maintenance programs and implement. Performs regular diagnostics of equipment and
periodically calibrates equipment. Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment use in water treatment and sewer collection.
4.Performs chemical and mathematical calculations; prepares and maintains necessary records and reports. Such records
may include computer input and knowledge of specialized software programs.
5. Conducts standard and specialized chemical and bacteriological examinations of regular and special samples of raw and
treated water, wastewater and effluent.
6.Responsible for upkeep of Sanitary Sewer Reports and sanitary sewer stoppage map; completion of sanitary sewer discharge reports.
7.Assists in budget preparation; control budgets for contacts, equipment and supplies, including bid work; evaluates department personnel.
8.Develop short-term and long term goals, deadlines, processes for water system and collection system operations.
9.Participates in department safety committee with topics for safety meetings. Oversees the safety of assigned maintenance workers and equipment operators by instructing individuals on proper safety procedures and monitoring work in progress.
10.Keep abreast of new developments in water maintenance, practices and equipment.
11.Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
The position requires the understanding of a body of knowledge comparable to that acquired in an academic field of study (typically a high school degree or equivalent and five or more years of directly related work experience in closely related field). Work independently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, accurate and attentive to detail, excellent communications and public relations abilities. Knowledge of water and electrical testing equipment. Ability to apply advance mathematical concepts.
Supervises a functional unit or area. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods and coordination of people and resources.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS, LICENSES REQUIRED
A Commercial driver license is desirable. Must possess DEQ licenses B operator for wastewater and C lab licenses. Must have a valid Oklahoma driver license and an acceptable driving record.
Must be able to use a computer with a working level of proficiency. Include development of spreadsheets, formulas, record tracking applications, word processing, graphics, etc. There may on occasion be some moderate lifting of equipment, some inconvenience or discomfort in work assignments, etc.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND SAFETY CONCERNS
Some minor physical inconvenience or discomfort routinely present in the work situation. About 50% of the time the incumbent is indoors. Job requires the incumbent to be aware of and observe safe working procedures. Must be able to read gauges and have sufficient color vision to run tests; must be able to sit, stand, climb stairs, crawl across pipelines, lift 50 pounds while climbing stairs; lift chemical bags weighing 25 pounds several times daily; must be able to work on uneven, sometimes slippery surfaces; some kneeling, stooping crouching required. Ability to write information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
