Conveniently located on the northern edge of the Austin Metro area, Leander is home to over 60,240 residents who enjoy the Texas Hill Country and the amenities and charm of a small community, while being close to the greater Austin business and entertainment scene, State Capitol, University of Texas, and Bergstrom International Airport. 

The City of Leander is a home rule city and operates under a council-manager form of government. The Fire Chief reports directly to the City Manager. The City of Leander seeks an experienced, collaborative leader with a dedication to public service to serve as its new Fire Chief. 

The ideal candidate must have a bachelor’s degree and have 15 years of experience in a municipal fire department, including at least 10 years in a supervisory position at a chief officer rank (Battalion Chief or above). A master’s degree is preferred.  

The following certifications and licensing are required: Texas Commission on Fire Protection 
(TCFP) Basic Firefighter Certification, Minimum of EMT-Basic certification, Emergency Management experience, Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Head of Department Certification within one year, Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Fire Inspector Certification within one year 

The following certifications and licensing are preferred qualifications: Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Master Firefighter Certification, EMT-Paramedic certification, Texas Fire chief Academy Certified Fire Executive (CFE) or Texas A&M fire Service Chief Executive Officer (FSCEO) certification, Executive Fire Officer (EFO) certification through the National Fire Academy, Chief Fire Officer (CFO) certification through the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) 

The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $135,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
