Lenexa, Kansas, is located in Johnson County and lies within 200 miles of the geographic center of the United States in the Kansas City metropolitan area. With a population of 55,000, Lenexa is an attractive and safe city with a strong sense of community and is the fastest growing city in the state of Kansas. The City of Lenexa Governing Body is comprised of a mayor and eight City Council members. The Governing Body appoints a City Manager who is responsible for implementing Governing Body policies, submitting the annual budget, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of City departments. 

The City seeks an innovative, progressive, and creative municipal professional with strong leadership skills to serve as its new City Manager. The ideal candidate must build effective and successful relationships within their first year with the staff, Governing Body, and the community and must learn to champion the existing culture and City’s vision, embracing the “Lenexa Way.” A strategic and visionary thinker, the new City Manager must be knowledgeable of operations, with highly refined analytical skills and the ability to resolve problems quickly and with sound judgment. 

The selected candidate must hold a master’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field and have 10 years of increasingly responsible municipal or other public sector management experience, including at least five years serving at the senior management or executive leadership level, or equivalent experience. Professional credentialing is a plus and the candidate should be active in professional association leadership roles. Extensive experience with economic development, financial management, strategic planning, general and operational management, public/ private partnerships, and capital improvements is strongly desired. Residency within the City is required within six months of the hiring date. The starting salary range for this position is $175,000-$215,000 annually DOQE.
