Welcome to the Oklahoma Municipal League Legislative Page One of the League's primary responsibilities is to represent the viewpoint of its member cities and towns at the state legislature. During each legislative session hundreds of bills are introduced that affect municipal government. These measures are followed on a day-to-day basis, many of them are actively supported or opposed, and developments are reported to our membership during the session. Between legislative sessions, the League provides information to interim committees. At the federal level the League keeps our congressional delegation apprised of the positions of our city and town officials on various national issues.  Staff works with both state and federal officials who develop the rules used to implement legislation to assure that policies and programs are compatible with and meet the needs of our cities and towns. OML Legislative Committee: What is the OML Legislative Committee – The OML Legislative Committee consists of a group of municipal officials who are actively involved in the legislative process.  They are invited to serve on the Legislative Committee by the OML Executive Director and meet approximately 7-9 times a year at the OML office. Together with OML staff members, the Legislative Committee solicits input from our members and prepares a proposed slate of legislative issues for the Board of Directors to approve.  The proposed slate is then voted on by the membership at OML’s annual conference.  During the state legislative session, the committee meets monthly to review new proposed legislation that may impact municipalities, as well as to gather and share information on the status of the OML slate of Legislative Issues as they move through the process.  Legislative Committee members often attend committee hearings and meet with legislators at the state capitol.
