TULSA – Alan Riffel, Woodward city manager, is the recipient of the 2009 Gerald Wilkins Award. He was presented the award by the City Management Association of Oklahoma (CMAO) during today’s Oklahoma Municipal League Annual Awards Breakfast.
Riffel is the twenty-first recipient of the annual award that honors the late Gerald Wilkins, former OML president and longtime city manager and municipal advisor in the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. The citation, named in his memory, recognizes the most outstanding city manager in Oklahoma.
Riffel has been a dedicated public servant for more than 30 years. With his guidance, the northwest city has become a premiere community in the state, according to Woodward Mayor Bill Fanning, who nominated Riffel. “A champion of the local collaboration, he has been instrumental in diversifying the local economy through the creation of a new tourism bureau, and positioned the community to accomplish long-lasting improvements to our city’s quality of life,” the mayor said.
The major purposes of CMAO are to promote professional city management and public administration, and to aid in the improvement of urban administration in general.
