PONCA CITY HONORED FOR TOP INNOVATIVE PROGRAM

TULSA – The City of Ponca City received a 2009 Municipal Innovations Award for its “Building a Multi-Use Wireless Broadband Network for Communitywide Benefit” program during today’s Oklahoma Municipal League Annual Awards Breakfast.
The project involved the installation of a wireless mesh to Ponca City’s broadband network to expand coverage to all city departments, as well as giving unlimited internet service to all Ponca City residents free of charge.
The League established this award as a means of highlighting the many innovative programs cities and towns implement. It recognizes the top innovative programs from throughout the state. An Innovations Award was also presented to the City of Harrah.
OML is a statewide, non-profit corporation currently composed of 471 member cities and towns. The League serves as a spokesperson for municipalities at state and federal government levels to achieve local objectives. By working together through the League, municipal officials formulate programs and unite in concerted action benefiting their communities.
