The Mayors Council of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Municipal League congratulates these winners and the local leaders and teachers who encouraged young people in their communities to participate. These 8th grade students came up with bold, fresh and innovating ideas for bringing tourism and development to their communities. One student envisioned a Hershey-type theme park in there town to bolster the economy by creating a place that tourists would want to visit. It’s this type of forward thinking that will help bring us out of the economic downturn our communities face today. It is very encouraging to see the imaginations of our students today, for they will be our leaders of tomorrow. Congratulations to our winners and a very big thank you to all who participated. We look forward to the 2010-2011 “If I Were Mayor…” essay contest with great anticipation! |
