The City of Midland, located in West Texas, is the midpoint between Dallas/Fort Worth and El Paso along I-20, with an estimated population of 133,183 (2015). Midland is a rapidly growing city with a thriving economy. The fiscal year 2016-2017 operating budget is $239,690,890 with a Police Department budget of $27,285,724.  

The City operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The Midland Police Department is a CALEA-accredited agency employing nearly 200 sworn officers and 53 civilian employees. The department is organized into seven cost centers and three bureaus, each led by a Deputy Chief. The Police Chief serves an essential role in the future of the City of Midland. 

The ideal candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree with 10 or more years of command level experience. The position requires experience working effectively in a diverse community. A master’s degree is preferred. Experience as a Chief in a comparable department is preferred. Advanced training such as the FBI National Academy or Police Executive Research Forum is considered a plus.
