Amarillo sits at the crossroads of America, almost equidistant from both coasts, with a population of nearly 200,000 residents and covering 100 square miles. Located in Potter and Randall Counties in the Texas Panhandle, Amarillo is the county seat of Potter County. Amarillo and the associated region have a quality of life that makes living and working in the area very attractive.

The City of Amarillo is a home rule municipality and operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The Human Resources Director reports directly to the City Manager. The City of Amarillo has 2,152 full-time employees and 333 part-time employees.

The Department is comprised of eight full-time positions and two part-time positions and has an FY 2016 adopted budget of $985,000. The City of Amarillo operates under a Civil Service System for all full-time employees. Police and Fire personnel follow State Civil Service requirements and laws. All other employees are subject to Local Civil Service rules.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in human resources management, business or public administration, or a related field is required. A master’s degree is preferred. The successful candidate will have five or more years of managerial/supervisory experience in human resources. Previous experience in a civil service city is preferred. Experience in an executive level position within a municipal government may be considered in lieu of direct human resources experience. The salary for this position is $91,175-$154,998, with a hiring range of $91,175 - $123,086, depending on qualifications and experience.
