The City of Amarillo is a home rule municipality and operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The Human Resources Director reports directly to the City Manager. The City of Amarillo has 2,152 full-time employees and 333 part-time employees.
The Department is comprised of eight full-time positions and two part-time positions and has an FY 2016 adopted budget of $985,000. The City of Amarillo operates under a Civil Service System for all full-time employees. Police and Fire personnel follow State Civil Service requirements and laws. All other employees are subject to Local Civil Service rules.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in human resources management, business or public administration, or a related field is required. A master’s degree is preferred. The successful candidate will have five or more years of managerial/supervisory experience in human resources. Previous experience in a civil service city is preferred. Experience in an executive level position within a municipal government may be considered in lieu of direct human resources experience. The salary for this position is $91,175-$154,998, with a hiring range of $91,175 - $123,086, depending on qualifications and experience.
