Ideally situated in the northeast corner of the Panhandle/Plains area of scenic North Texas, Wichita Falls, Texas cover 70.12 square miles. An economically progressive commerce hub, Wichita Falls offers its 104,710 residents an outstanding quality of life and world-class amenities in a charming, small-town atmosphere. The City has an FY2017 budget of $170 million and employs over 1,200 full-time employees. The City’s ad valorem tax rate is 0.70598 per $100 of valuation. 

The Director of Community Development is under the supervision of the Deputy City Manager. The Community Development department consist of five major operating divisions with an operating budget of $6.7 Million and 41 employees. 

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in urban planning, landscape architecture, engineering, or a closely related field is required. A master’s degree is strongly preferred, as is AICP certification. The selected candidate must have 7-10 years of progressively responsible planning and community development experience, including at least five years as a director or assistant director. Experience in downtown redevelopment and neighborhood revitalization is desired. The starting salary is between $120,000 and $135,000 DOQE.
