The next administrator must be a visionary who will optimize the City’s growth and development opportunities. Economic development, municipal financial management, leadership skills and vision are the City’s priorities for the next administrator. Richmond, a community of approximately 6,000, is a city on the move. Located just 35 miles from Kansas City, it has experienced considerable growth and development. Sound financial management skills will be required to ensure the City’s resources are used in the best mix to encourage growth through economic development and maintain existing activities and infrastructure.
An ability to visualize how the City can grow and develop and determine what fits in Richmond’s future will be a critical skill. Richmond will thrive as the next administrator continues to skillfully and effectively guide development. The administrator must be a team builder and multi-tasker who possesses exceptional communication skills in order to articulate ideas and vision to the staff, the Mayor and Council and the citizens in general in order to build a strong cohesive team. This requires the ability to listen as well as convey accurate information to all concerned.
The administrator will be expected to participate throughout the community and state including local organizations, the MML, state legislators as well as business representatives and other organizations seeking information about Richmond.
The selected candidate will at a minimum hold a bachelors’ degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field with a Master’s Degree preferred. Three to five years as an assistant or administrator are required. Starting salary range for this position, DOQ, is $60,000 - $75,000 plus benefits.
